Well, it is time for us to know about the geographic location of Italy..
Italy is located in the southern europe and comprises, the long, boot-shaped Italian peninsula, the southern side of alps, the large plain of po valley and some islands including sicily and sardine. corsica , although belonging to the geographical  region  has been a part of france.
Its total are is 301,340km of which 294140 km is land and 7200km is water. italy also borders with switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, san marino and Vatican city.

Mountains and plains..
Almost 40% of the Italian territory is mountainous with alps as the northern boundary and  the Apennine mountains forming the backbone of the peninsula and extending for 1350km.in between the two lies a large plain in the valley of the po, the largest river in Italy , which flows 652km eastward from cottian alps to the Adriatic . the po valley is the largest plain in Italy, with 46,000km2 and it represents over 70% of the total plain area in country. worldwide known mountains in Italy are matterhorn, monte rosa , gran paeadiso in the west alps, and berinina, stelvio and dolomites.

Volcanoes
Many elements of the Italian territory are of volcanic origin.most of the small islands and archipelagos in the south like capraia, ponza, Ischia, eolie, ustica etc.

Rivers and seas
Most of italy’s rivers drain either into the aediatic sea {like po, piave, adige, bretna, tagliamento, reno} though the waters from some border municipalities  in drain into the black sea through the basin of the dava.

Lakes..
In the north of the country are a number of subalpine moraine-dammed lakes, the largest of which is garda , other well known of these subalpine lakes are lake maggiaore whose most northerly section is part of Switzerland.

Irrigated land: 39,510km
Total renewable water resources:191.3 km

Climate
The climate is as humid continental or temperate. The coastal and most of the peninsula areas can be very different from the interiors higher ground and valleys , particularly during the winter months when the higher altitudes tend to be cold wet, and often snowy.
The north and south areas can have a considerable difference in temperature.
The east coast of the peninsula is not as wet as the west coast but it has usually colder in the winter.
The north east coast mainly from ravenna to venice the snow falls more rarely.
The ardiatic coast has a milder wind which makes snow turn  to rain. The city of Trieste may see snow falls with north eastern winds during the cold winters.

Hence it is evident that  Italy is not only best in its culture but also has the perfect geographical outlay..which makes its even more special.

  1. First thing's first, great article Raghavi!
It's interesting how the climate is different across the two corners of the country!
But just from these picture, we can see how well the mountains, the rivers and seas, the lakes and even the volcanoes complement the country. It's a beautiful country!
The most unique thing about Italy i'd say is that it happens to be shaped like a book. It makes me wonder how it got to become that shape or if it was originally like that.

  3. I love the way you have presented your article Raghavi. Every fact in here is quite intriguing for Italy, in spite of not being a very big country still has within itself mountains, plains, volcanic mountains and islands.
The highest peak in Europe is in Italy. Monte Bianco (White Mountain) is 15,771 feet high and is part of the Alps which becomes fact #33 on *THE NERDY 101 FACTS ABOUT ITALY*.

Fact #34 is about a mountaineering school. Cortina d'Ampezzo has the oldest school of mountaineering in Italy for mountaineering is a famous sport there.

On another note Raghavi, I think you could have written a little more on the water bodies in the country. It would have been lovely to read a more on it.
Finally, Shreya, a minute correction on your comment. I think you have typed book by mistake instead of boot.
